— железные дороги Австрии имеют один нюанс: двери во всем общественном транспорте открываются с помощью специальной кнопки около них.

Train delays

As a rule, you are entitled to receive 25% of the one way fare of your ÖBB ticket for delays starting from 60 minutes and 50% for delays starting from 120 minutes. Compensations under € 4.- are not paid out. Special compensation rules apply for international pass offers, the Österreichcard, all-inclusive offers as well as commutation tickets.

If you use only suburban and regional transport services (designated with the train category Regionalzug, Regionalexpress or S-Bahn in the timetables) and do not have a ticket that also includes main-line services, there is no entitlement for compensation in case of any delay.

Your Sparschiene Austria at a glance

With ÖBB Sparschiene, you can travel throughout the entire country. In case of all ÖBB long distance trains or ÖBB Intercitybus tickets the offer starts from a travel distance of 150 kilometres for every direction.

• Points of sale

  All Sparschiene Austria tickets are exclusively available online and through the ÖBB App.

• Validity

  The ticket is valid for one person on the train selected, on the valid day of travel and in one direction. The number of Sparschiene tickets per train is limited. You should therefore book your ticket early. You can purchase your Sparschiene Austria ticket as early as 6 months before your travel date, or directly before embarking. When purchasing tickets, observe the schedule changes in December.

• Seat reservation

  All other discounts are void when booking a Sparschiene ticket. Your Sparschiene ticket for 2nd class cannot be upgraded to a 1st class ticket. An upgrade from 1st class to business class, however, is possible. Please also note our current terms and conditions for Sparschiene Austria.

Time-based tickets customers (with the exception of annual tickets)

As a holder of a time-based ticket you receive compensation if you experience a delay of more than 20 minutes where the delay has been confirmed by an on-board staff member or by station ticket counter staff immediately upon your arrival. Should it not be possible to obtain confirmation by those means, please contact the ÖBB-Kundenservice 05-1717 or go to fahrplan.oebb.at by 12 midnight on the following day to retrieve and print your confirmation: go to the «trains/lines» section and enter your data under «confirmation of delay».

There is a standard compensation sum of € 1.50 for each delay, payable in cash upon presentation of your time-based ticket and appropriate number of delay confirmations at any ÖBB ticket counter — the delays must fall within the period of validity of the time-based ticket. Please note that compensation payments of less than € 4.- will not be issued.

Train cancellation or delay before or during the journey

If your train is cancelled or delayed by more than 60 minutes, you have the following options:

• You can choose not to start your journey at the place of departure and we will refund you the full fare.
• You can travel on another of our trains, if necessary via another route or with another type of transport service, if such transport service is included in your ticket.
• You can abort your journey and we will refund you the fare for the route not yet travelled.
• If the journey you started has become useless for you, you can immediately return on another of our trains or, if necessary with another type of transport service (if such use is included in your ticket) to the place of departure and we will refund you the full fare.

Resumption of Nightjet services

Currently suspended night train services will start running again on 26 June 2020 — subject to official constraints in Austria and abroad. For precise information, please see the list on nightjet.com under «Details on the resumption of services».

Tickets are available online now at nightjet.com, tickets.oebb.at, via the ÖBB app and from ÖBB customer service on 05-1717. Conditions for the resumption of services to/ from Italy are still being clarified, so bookings cannot currently be made for these trains.

YOUR OWN COMPARTMENT FOR MORE PRIVACY

Until further notice, single seats can be booked on ÖBB Nightjets in the seating carriage, couchette carriage with 4-person compartments, or in the sleeper carriage. For maximum privacy, the compartments in the three comfort categories can also be booked as a separate (private) compartment. This enables you to travel in a compartment with just your family or friends, without having to share it with other passengers who are not in your group. You can find full details about private compartments on the website or by calling ÖBB customer service on 05-1717.

Annual ticket customers

As an annual ticket customer, upon first ordering your annual ticket, the ÖBB or the issuing office for the annual ticket will contact you in writing to ask you whether or not you wish to take part in the train delay compensation process. If you wish to participate, details about your stations of departure and arrival will be logged as well as your bank contact details.

ÖBB will subsequently issue information monthly about punctuality rates on the line, or parts thereof, on which your stations of departure and arrival lie and for which you are using your annual ticket.

If we fail to meet the 95% punctuality stipulated by local and regional law, you will be credited with 10% of the computational portion of the compensation base per month as compensation for delay. Basically, the basis for compensation is the tenfold fare of a Verkehrsverbund-Monatsstreckenkarte, which applies on the specific rail line you are travelling on, but is limited by the total price you actually paid for your Verbund annual ticket. If we are 95% punctual in any month during the entire term of your annual pass, we compensate you with 10% of the respective compensation base. We only pay compensation if the amount exceeds € 4.-. The total amount of any delay compensation will be transferred to the bank account mentioned by you without further notice after expiry of the period of validity of your annual pass.

Please note that bus journeys that form part of annual ticket zones do not attract compensatory payments and that annual tickets used exclusively for inner city areas (town transport, core zones) are not subject to any kind of compensation regulations.

В прошлом году мне удалось провести в Австрии почти две недели и за это время я смогла посетить Вену, Грац, Линц, Зальцбург, Хальштадт, винодельческие городки дунайской долины Вахау, старинные замки, помпезные дворцы и роскошные аббатства, а также один из крупнейших в стране музыкальных фестивалей FM4 Frequency Festival, которому ранее уже посвящалась отдельная публикация. Попасть в саму Австрию из Украины можно на самолете. Например, не так давно лоукостер Wizz Air запустил рейсы до Вены по вполне доступным ценам. Также до Австрии можно доехать из соседних стран, например, Венгрии, Словакии или Германии. Особо удобной в этом плане является словацкая Братислава, из которой в Вену ходят поезда чуть ли не каждые полчаса. Немного истории

Стальная артерия воздвигалась с 1848 по 1854 гг. Пересеченная горная местность, делает инженерные решения железной дороги очень интересными. На протяжении 41 километра применено множество новаторских разработок середины 19 века: туннели, арки, виадуки. Все это очень эффектно сочетается с альпийскими пейзажами. Благодаря железной дороге на этой местности стали появляться поселения, а позже Альпы стали привлекательным туристическим объектом. Австрийская железная дорога сегодня является удобным и доступным способом посещения альпийской местности.

Путь через Альпы из долины Мерц использовался с давних времен. В период средневековья по горным склонам из Вены передвигались обозы, запряженные быками. В 1728 году данное направление было преобразовано в военную дорогу, а также применялось в качестве торгового пути. Но труднодоступная местность Земмеринга достаточно длительное время не была обеспечена устройством современной дороги. Поэтому строительство железнодорожного направления явилось прорывом в инженерии и носило экспериментальный характер. Более сотни каменных мостов различного дизайна, четырнадцать тоннелей, шестнадцать виадуков – все это было применено в ходе возведения данного железнодорожного направления. На всем протяжении стальной колеи — более одиннадцати мостов, выполненных из металла.

Совместно с возведением железнодорожного полотна производилось строительство домов для рабочих и персонала, обслуживающего трассу. Всего их было выстроено 57 штук. Для этих строений характерны своеобразные архитектурные черты: каменная кладка, облицовка из кирпича. Австрийская железная дорога имеет станции, выполненные в монументальном, сдержанном стиле. Перевалы постепенно застраивались виллами и отелями в готическом стиле. Особенно их много на территории Глоггница.

В 1957 году, когда стало подаваться электричество к железной дороге, появились первые электропоезда. К 1880 году горная местность приобретает статус курорта, поэтому возникла необходимость в строительстве отеля, который получил название «Зиммеринг».
